This course investigates modern methods and challenges of interpreting Civil War battlefield landscapes and historic sites, examines various perspectives through which the Civil War era is interpreted and provides practical experience in developing interpretive products. This class will include site visits to various Civil War sites in the Winchester area, during class time, to explore the ways that the Civil War era’s complexities are interpreted. Additionally, the class will include numerous roundtable discussions throughout the semester about various issues related to the challenges of interpreting the Civil War’s complex history.
